How could GRAID benefit your business?

Repurposed NVIDIA T1000 GPUs act as RAID controllers in novel GRAID solutions. By offloading NVMe activity to the GPU, this technology provides incredibly high levels of performance and increases efficiency in demanding workloads, without consuming CPU cycles.

Using GRAID offers a new outlook on common problems, including bottlenecks and storage limits, due to its high speed. It can also help your company reduce costs, carbon emissions and e-waste production— many existing servers have been retrofitted with GRAID technology, which increased their lifespan, as well as their reliability and performance.

There are several use cases for GRAID, from machine learning to storage. Read on to learn more about the applications for this exciting technology.

Machine Learning

Machine Learning workloads require very high specs to run efficiently, with any bottlenecks wasting valuable time and money. GRAID servers offload your NVMe activity to your GPUs, providing incredibly high IOPS, increasing overall speed.

A leading UK institute needed a powerful server to prevent workflow bottlenecks and drive their Machine Learning research forward. We delivered a scalable, high-speed NVMe 4.0 SSD-based GRAID solution, with a capacity of 178TB. This communicates fluidly with an L40-based GPU server, allowing them to conduct their research with confidence.

Visualisations

No matter the purpose, visualisation requires very high levels of performance. GRAID is an apt solution for this, allowing GPUs in the system to deliver high quality graphics, and preventing bottlenecks.

The University of Southampton’s µ-VIS X-ray Imaging Centre opted for GRAID to solve bottlenecks in their visualisation workflow. Their research, microfocus Computed Tomography, uses cross-sections of a physical object to non-destructively generate virtual 3D models, so they knew they’d need a custom solution to handle their workloads. We built them a GRAID server capable of reaching 20GB/s sequential read, 4x faster than any SSDs currently available on the market.

Databases & Large Video Storage

Many organisations struggle with storing and maintaining large volumes of vital data, from healthcare institutions with patient data and police forces with vital evidence, to creative studios with asset files. Those looking to store large volumes of video, for example drone footage or high-quality surveillance, face the added issue of transferring this data to a safe storage server quickly and efficiently.

GRAID offers scalable infrastructure in which to store and manage mass data, with high read/write speeds and lower costs.

Overall GRAID provides a solution to issues with performance and storage. If you’re interested in learning more about this novel technology, learn more from our Lead Solutions Architect, or get in touch with our friendly specialists to start building your own custom solution.
